How to take a screenshot of menu

"How do I take a screenshot of dropdown or pupup menu?" - I receive this question fairly often. So let's try to find out how to do that.

Actually, this is quite a simple task, of cource if you've got a screen capture program with the hot keys support. Since I'm the author of HandySnap, I'd suggest you to use my program :) And all illustrations below are for this program.

First of all run your screen capture program and setup the hotkeys (see screenshot below). Be sure you don't use combinations with the "Alt" key because as soon as you press it any popup menu will disapear.

Now call the menu you want to capture (click on a drop-down menu or right-click somewhere to call a popup menu) and press the hot key combination which you cpecified for the "Capture rectangular area" action in your screen capture program's options.

As you see your menu is still on the screen. To finish making a screenshot select the area you want to captureю To do that click somewhere near to the top left corner of your menu and after that somewhere near to the bottom right corner of it. That's it, you've got a screenshot of your menu.

Two more things about HandySnap:
1. Make sure the option "Find moved window" is unchecked in the main options.
2. Check the "Capture mouse pointer" option to make a screenshot with the pointer on it (see sample screenshot below.)
